FAS has developed a tool to measure rolling resistance in any type of
geared assembly. These assemblies include: transmissions, gear
boxes, differentials, rear end assemblies and pumps.

The tool uses a hand held gun, motor controller,
and PC to rotate the input shaft of an assembly. While your
assembly is rotating, the RAD software will provide you with the
following benefits:
-
Find lost horsepower
The RAD gun measures rolling resistance of
gear trains, rear ends, transmissions, pumps or any other geared
assembly
- Test
Bearing Preload
Too Little Preload = Premature failure
Too Much Preload = Unnecessary rolling resistance and lost horsepower
RAD will help you find the perfect bearing preload and shim pack
- Proper Gear Mesh
Detect hidden wear in gears, lobed gears or bad gear teeth
- Pump
Seal Failure
A large change in pump rolling
resistance could be caused by a failing
seal or worn pump rotor
- R&D Testing
Quantify design or component changes
Are those expensive "low
friction" gears really worth it? Use the RAD system to evaluate the
efficiency of design and component changes.
